Neomuslim Democracy

During the Medinan period, for each military expedition, the Prophet appointed a new and different commander [1,2]. Thus the Prophet limited the commander's power by the time and scope of the expedition. Similarly, nowadays, people must limit the power of a leader by the time and scope of the project. Instead of appointment by the Prophet, people must use election by voting to appoint temporary leaders. Each project must have its own leader because each project has its own specifics, and non-professionals cannot understand them.

For example, several candidates propose a solution to the problem in a written form and publish it online. Then, people read the proposals and vote online through a secure blockchain voting technology. Each vote is a pledge to fund the project because each vote carries the amount of taxes of that person. People must choose on which projects they spend their taxes on.

Long-term projects do not need leaders, but they need automation. Short-term projects need leaders. Thus, the leader’s time should not exceed half of a year, i.e., 180 days. If more time is needed for the project, then automated systems must take the place of a leader. The leader cannot have power for more than 180 days. After 180 days, the project must continue leaderless and in a decentralized way. Therefore, the leader must write a plan for the first 180 days, and then, the leader must write the plan of the automation system for the time after 180 days.

This way of thinking may open doors to leaderless, decentralized, transparent, open, antifragile, robust, and honest social relations. The power must not concentrate on one person for a long time. The power must be distributed among many persons and for a short length of time. The appointment of commanders by the Prophet is the proof of this concept.

2:111. … Say: “Produce your proof if you are truthful!”

25:30. And the Messenger says: “My Lord! Surely my people have made this Qur’an something worthy of no attention.”
